Matts Studios is a creative studio focused on fashion and beauty projects.
With a moderate identity, the creative studio seeks to convey how it is possible to combine modernity with class and have exclusive projects.
With headquarters in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul/Brazil and a branch in São Paulo/Brazil, Matts Studios approached us to create a brand with authority and authenticity in the market.
I used a Grotesk-style typography, which combines modernity with ease of reading. Although it is not the logotype's typography, it serves as a support for the brand's entire visual identity.
For the colors, I chose a palette of five tones, with green as the main color. We chose not to follow the traditional path of audiovisual production companies, which usually use black and white. Instead, we chose a more modern and sophisticated path, bringing color to the project without losing its sobriety.
The development of the logotype was a challenging process. Several ideas were tested, but none fully captured one of the elements that my client values: Oriental Culture. While reflecting on the brand’s visual references, the idea of incorporating Japanese features into the MATTS name came to mind. Recognizing the risk, we decided to move forward with the proposal.
The result is a unique and elegant typeface, based on an existing style, but adapted to reflect the identity that the brand wants to convey. Instead of opting for simplistic and common typefaces, we created something that arouses curiosity and attention, conveying creativity, art and modernity to the project.
Initially, the idea was to create just a typographic brand. However, during a call for alignment, the suggestion of using a bear as the brand symbol came up, which sparked several ideas and drafts. Finding the right design was a challenge, as the bear can easily evoke two undesirable interpretations: a childish image, which does not reflect the brand's purpose, or a serious, forest-like appearance, which is equally far from the objective.
In view of this, a minimalist and timeless proposal was developed, representing a stylized, modern bear, with great potential for application in various forms. After completion, new insights emerged to enrich the concept, such as the use of glasses and studio light elements, which complement the identity.
